Im not a psychic (at least a good one)… is this what you’re thinking?
I don’t really know much about or anything about EV’s, what charger is right for me?
I've heard horror stories about major upgrades needed to my home to allow for a EV charger!?!?! Say it ain't so!!!
No worries! Just give us a call, email or text anytime! We will help you select a charger that fits your needs and most importantly fits your EV. Our go to charger is the Tesla wall connector and yes, Tesla makes a universal charger that can charge almost any EV including Teslas. We carry chargers so no need to worry!
Take a breath...We got you covered. While some homes and situations may benefit from a upgrade, it is not necessary. We have products that allow for installation without any upgrades to your existing electrical service and still deliver a great home charging experience. Genius might be a strong word but not in this case.
How much does it cost to install a EV charger?
I hear about levels of charging what does all that mean?
What typically adds the most cost is the distance between the main panel (the thing with the breakers in it) and where the charger will be installed. We can typically find a great cost effective solution. We find a common range to be $400-$1000 plus the cost of the charger. What we can say is reach out to us and we can provide a quote, most times just a few photos is all we need!
"Levels"refer to chargers that are capable of certain charge rates. A level 1 being the slowest, this plugs into your standard 120v outlet like your TV or toaster, this usually will take DAYS to full charge. Level 2 is a 240v like your water heater or stove and can charge the vehicle in hours. level 3 is a DC fast charger and is the fastest charging. This is also know in the Tesla community as supercharging, this usually can charge the vehicle in 20-45 min depending on vehicle and charger. No, you don’t need a level 3 at home. We install level 2 chargers which is recommend by all manufacturers for home use.
What does the process look like?
Can I just get any old electrician to install this thing?
We discuss your options/what works best and provide a quote. We then get a permit for your installation and set a install date and time. We come back and do the installation as discussed and leave with your charger ready for action. We then call in an inspection with your local inspector, he says "Damn, that looks great" and we email you a copy of the inspection . Then your done, a fully functional charger installed by professionals, permitted and inspected. We have completed same day installations!
Maybe, We all know places to get a good burger and well... places that make burgers. We like to believe we do a pretty bang up job. We are certified by Tesla, ChargePoint, EVITP, Qmerit, Electrum and others. We submit your install with photos and documentation to Tesla so they can feel all warm and fuzzy about listing us as a installer on their website. We got a passion and we are aren't afraid to show it. We have Tesla chargers on hand to get your install done quickly!
What does "Hardwired" vs "Cord and plug" mean?
"Someone" told me I can plug my car into a clothes dryer outlet?!?!
Cord and plug is exactly what it sounds like, a charger that can plug into a outlet. Some mobile/portable charging cords allow for multiple outlet adapters. These usually are a standard 120v common household outlet (1.4kw charge rate) but allow for most commonly 14-50 adapters (7.6kw charge rate). Some wall mounted chargers also come with a cord and can be configured to provide a 9.6kw charge rate. The recommended installation by all manufacturers of both vehicle and charger is known as Hardwiring. this means that the charger itself is connected directly to the wiring and no plug exists. This installation is typically a better value in most situations. A hardwired charger is wall mounted and can achieve charge rates of 11.5kw to 19.2kw.
Clothes dryer outlets and wiring were not installed with the intention of providing maximum output for long periods of time and can pose a fire risk. I like to joke but safety is no joking matter. We only install EV/Industrial quality outlets with the correct conductor size(wiring) for EV charging. Residential outlets are prone to overheating and are often not sized correctly for EV charging . We recommend having existing outlets inspected/updated for EV use. This is typically a slower charging option than what a dedicated charger (Hardwired) would allow as well.
